Paint

It's 10:40 on a Saturday night, and what am I doing? I am patiently waiting for my sweet husband to paint The Grit's nursery.

At 9:00 this morning I set out to buy the perfect shade of blue... Honest Blue. Great name, huh? It gets even better because that perfect shade of blue is on paint card 75. Todd and I were born in 1975. (Yes, I enjoy the way pieces of our life fit together like that.)

So while patiently waiting, I have done two loads of laundry, cooked dinner, swept & "swifer"ed our hardwood floors, and blogged. I have been productive.

Of course I took "before" photos, and of course there will be "after" photos, but obviously there will be no "during" photos because I am waiting for that TA DA moment. I want to be surprised.

Check back soon. Photos coming!

Sick with Shingles

Ever had the shingles? If not, I pray you don't ever get them. If you have been unfortunate enough to suffer with the shingles, I pray they don't return. Ever. That is the most excruciating pain, worse than some of the surgeries I have had (and I have had some major surgeries).

The rash is nothing. The lightening bolt pain that causes one to spasm and writhe in agony is something.

Last Monday I started getting an earache and a small rash on my neck (left side and left back). By Wednesday the pain started. Even brushing my hair caused me to cower in pain. It was nothing at first, but I am thankful that Todd strongly suggested that I call the doctor for an appointment. The doctor saw me the following day, and within a minute diagnosed it as "the shingles." Both my grandmother and dad have suffered through them, so I immediately went to the drug store and filled the prescriptions. I knew what I was in for.

I had license to be the Drama Queen Thursday night as Todd lovingly applied the most foul smelling "drying" cream to the rash. Flinching, crying, breathing uncontrollably... that was me. The Drama Queen. By Friday morning, I surely thought I was going to die. OK, not really, but you can sympathize. I went to work, worked through the pain, "ticked" all day (probably 200+ times) as the lightening bolt pain surged through my head, and was exhausted by the time I got home.

Despite my exhaustion, I didn't sleep much Friday night/Saturday morning. I was awake at 3:30 and found it impossible to get back to sleep. Doing something made the pain go away (or so it seemed), so I did several loads of laundry, organized my closet, and cleaned the bathroom, all while the family slept.

Saturday night sleep was welcome and plenty. I woke only to take the pain pills and was able to get back to sleep easily. I slept until 9:00.

Sunday was better, with the pain only coming when it was time to take the next pain pill or dose of medicine.

Today is Monday, and I feel almost 90% like myself. The rash is still there, but it's running its course. The pain is still there, but it's minimal. The ticking is almost non-existent. Another day or two and I suspect I will be 100%.

This too shall pass...

The Old Wives Had It Right

If you'll remember back to November 14, 2008, I blogged about whether The Grit was a BOY or a GIRL. And in that post I told you that the Old Wives were saying it was a BOY.

Well, they were right. Todd & I are expecting a little boy on or about June 3.

We've already started buying him the most adorable & handsome clothes. Ever. I'll post some photos tonight. Maybe.

I also made him some sweet burp clothes. My friend Joan & I spent the entire day yesterday sewing. I'll post some photos of them as well.

Oh, we also got the stroller & car seat we wanted, compliments of Todd's parents. Thank you, Jeff & Arden. (Guess I really should start calling them Grandma & Grandpa.) Photo to come soon.

Now I am planning the nursery. We know we want puppies to be part of the decor since we have Maize & Hershey (& Camper... she's a kitty who thinks she's a puppy) & they are our first (furry) babies. Oh, Todd found the cutest stuffed animals at Macy's the other day. We bought a black Lab, a yellow Lab & a gray kitty... one for each of our (furry) babies. They will be in the nursery decor.

We've also picked out the name. Nathan Edward. Sweet, huh?

My Little Rockette (or perhaps Rocket???)

Last Monday Todd & I are on the sofa... me laying on my left side and him sitting with my feet in his lap. A few minutes after we "assumed this position," I got this sharp pain in my right side, down near the pelvic bone. I think they are called "round ligament pains." I have been having these kinds of pains for a few weeks now, so it didn't come as a surprise. What happened next did though.

I pressed my first two fingers on the spot to "quiet" the pain... kinda like you do when you have your eyebrows waxed or tweezed and you press on the spot afterwards to minimize the pain. Well, The Grit kicked back!

In other Grit news, we find out tomorrow if it's a he or a she. I think girl, and Todd thinks boy, but he is just saying that to be difficult.
